Rhyming Words

I placed a rhyming sheet onto a cookie sheet, then used the clear rocks and glued rhyming pictures to the backs.  The children dig through the bucket to find two words that rhyme and add it to their cookie sheet.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

I printed out a picture of the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree, laminated it and taped it to a cookie sheet.  Provide magnetic alphabet letters for children to use while spelling words or reciting Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.

Construction Sensory Table

A super easy sensory table idea that will be a thrill with all the students!

Classroom Rain Forest

In the 2nd grade classroom in which I was doing my first student teaching placement we explored the Rain Forest.  Students took part in creating a classroom rain forest in which they created animals and wrote a report about their favorite animal.

Book Storage/ Seat

Here is an easy way to add seating to any room.  A great idea to go around a guided reading table where students store their books in the bin.

Place Values

Found this idea on Pinterest and couldn't resist trying it out!

Have students create a number.  Ask them what place value one of the numbers is in (one, tens, hundreds).

Contractions

A great way for students to visually see how to make contractions!

St. Patricks Day

Read the book- "The Day the Leprechaun Lost His Rainbow", have the children create the project below!

Detailed Writing

In order to get the students more involved in the writing process and to add more detail to their paragraphs I showed them a plain hamburger.  Then I added more items to the hamburger to show them that the more detail added to the hamburger the better the burger looks!  They thought it was pretty cool.

Contractions

We did contraction surgery!  The kids loved it!  They dressed the part and cut and bandaged the contractions!

Groundhogs Day

Oh how exciting it is to be in 2nd grade and predict what the groundhog will see.  We read the book, Groundhog Weather School,  and then created our own burrow.  If I lived in a burrow I would... some students had a bathroom, bookshelf, food, bed, alarm clock.  They turned out GREAT!  Next, we used our skills from math, symetry, and created our groundhog out of hearts!  They turned out GREAT!

Writing Exciting LEADS!

I created this poster to help the students decide what would be the best lead for them to start their writing with!  I received some very creative and exciting journal entries.

100th Day of School

I wanted the 2nd graders to do a writing project for the 100th day of school.  We talked about what they would look like when they are 100 and then we wrote about it.  After they were done writing we ripped paper to create their portrait.

Recycled Envelopes

With a world that is becoming so technology driven, many people are paying bills online.  However many people are still getting the paper copy of the bill in their mailbox.  Instead of throwing away all of those good envelopes- RECYCLE!  Add them to your writing center or dramatic play area.  Children will love the opportunity to write a letter and mail it out to someone.  Plus you don't have to feel back about using a new envelope! Thanks Lisa for the GREAT idea!
